Delicious, authentic mexican food. My Dad specifically asked to come here during his visit to bay area as it was his fav spot when he lived here before. It did not disappoint. We had the carne asada plate and it was delicious. The best part was the freshly hand made tortilla that came with the meal. So good!

Some of the best taqueria food in the financial district area; some of the worst in San Francisco. I come to this place about every other week cause sometimes I want Mexican for lunch and there are no other options. They serve burritos, quesadillas, and tacos. Chips sold separately. I have several comments about the food. The meat is pretty bad, often overcooked or even burned, the beef has a lot of gristle in it, and they use cheddar cheese in the burritos and quesadillas, which gives the food a very "off" flavor. The burritos are expensive by SF standards. They're much smaller than your average mission burrito yet still cost $7 without any salsa, guac, or sour cream. The tacos are actually great, but they cost $3 a piece. A final gripe is that on several occasions they got my order wrong when I asked them to add guac and sour cream to my burrito. Overall, skip it unless you work nearby and need a burrito in your mouth ASAP.

I hold taquerias in the Bay Area to very high standards. This restaurant, after my first experience, barely made the cut of a Bay Area taqueria I would frequent. Everything you could want in a taqueria is there, fresh tortillas, a good meat selection, and reasonable prices. The only thing this taqueria lacked is that something extra that separates the big boys from the rest. My Burrito al Pastor had plenty of meat and great proportions of everything, it did taste relatively simple, which made me not dislike the shop, but also not give it an amazing review.

Had a carne asada super burrito and chips and salsa and was not impressed. Also, the lady who served our chips grabbed them with her bare hands and then handled our money and the register/ tablet. The bathroom door was also left open and smelled, which was made it pretty disgusting for those who are we're trying to eat. My friends had the chicken sope and the super taco and were also not impressed. We will definitely not be returning!

Sadly, I cannot give a good review The people were nice enough, but first, I ordered a SUPER burrito but got a regular one. Second, the al pastor was burned. I don't even know how this is possible. There were black charred fragments in every bite. chips and salsa cost $1.50 extra Prices are good. A regular burrito is less than $6 The good news is I think they stay open if they have a customer. I say this because while we were there, though the sign said "CLOSED," they never locked the door so ppl kept coming in to order things.

Not impressed. I was in the neighborhood and I wanted something quick to eat on the go. I quickly checked Yelp and Los Compadres' ratings and decided to grab a burrito here. I noticed they had Lengua so that sealed the deal for me. Came in around noon and there were a few people dining on the tables and 3 staff working behind the counter with no one in line. I stood there....and I stood there....and I stood there which seemed like an eternity as I had a 12:45 meeting to attend do. Then the lady behind the counter finally noticed me and asked, "What do you want?" I didn't know it got that cold in this part of South City. Quickly placed my order (regular-sized burrito) since I already knew what to get and waited for it. As the guy was handing me the burrito, I was thinking, "Is that it?" Damn...that's not a burrito. That's a shrimp burrito without the shrimp. This is half the size of a regular burrito in a lot of places. And they skimp a lot on the meat. All I tasted were beans, rice and sauce with a few sprinkles of Lengua meat scattered around. There's more meat served in a lot of Taco Trucks I've frequented and the regular-sized burritos are pretty big. The flavor was also lackluster at best. The only flavor I tasted was the hot sauce overpowering everything. Bad customer service. Bad food. Tiny portions. I'm not feeling the love from an establishment called Compadres. Meh...

Today will be the last time I ever step foot in here. The guy behind the counter is rude and doesn't give a shit he completely ignored me and took the next guy's order even though I had been patiently waiting and he just waltzed in. This is not the first time he has done this but for me my last. Guess they don't care about there customers

When the Mexican workers show up first thing in the morning for steaming bowls of menudo, you know you are in an authentic restaurant. The food is great. The portions are huge. The tortillas are made fresh. The place could use a thorough cleaning, but otherwise is quite good.

I stopped in for a chorizo & egg super breakfast burrito. It was massive! It was even too much for me. They started with a mountain of ground chorizo, added two eggs and included beans, rice, guac, sour cream, salsa and cheese. I ate about half and the richness got to me. It was tasty though. I'd read the reviews and comments on sanitation but decided to try it anyway. I can't say that those concerns are unfounded. I do think there are issues (even beyond what you'd find in a typical mom and pop taqueria) and it would make me think twice about going back. I would have gone with a 4 Star if not for that.

First time here and to not make this story long, food sits in a steamer and the carne Asada has all the fat on it, so u get clumps of fat and you also get the the Chile stems in your food. La genre seem nice but have no pride in there work

I wish they had less than one star to give but oh well... Not only is this place very unsanitary & the customer service is terrible. But they are down right racist. They were more concerned what race I was & why I didn't speak Spanish. The man preparing my food asked why I didn't speak Spanish. I explained that I was Filipino. He did not care & continued to speak Spanish to me. My co-worker said jokingly, "it's cause your Mexican just admit it." I said to the man, "I'm not Mexican." The man said, "I didn't say that, I just thought you looked Spanish." I thought to myself, "seriously" Spaniards are Caucasian!!! & I am clearly Brown!!! & what the "F" does that have to do with my food order? He then proceeded to make me a smaller "Super" Burrito than my co-workers. I'll post a picture. After paying the lady at the register, she wouldn't give me my change without me repeating "duh nada" after her. I am sorry Mexicans look like me & I don't speak Spanish but it does not mean you should treat me like a second rate citizen. That's just down right racist! Oh yeah, the food was terrible. The El Paster was dry & tasted like it was made yesterday. I am Filipino & grew up eating spicy food but it was "super" spicy probably cause the whole racist thing... I HATE THIS PLACE!

Los Compadres is one of those wonderful, hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants that one often hears about, the kind that uses real pork lard in their refried beans, makes salsa from scratch, and even presses their own tortillas from hand-rolled maiz every day. This type of Mexican restaurant is hard to find any more, as many of them have been displaced by the large chains like Chipotles, as well as a broader range of ethnic mom-and-pop eateries. Now that I have sampled the fare here, Los Compadres has become my go-to spot for Mexican food whenever I am in South San Francisco. I recently joined nine of my co-workers for a spur-of-the-moment lunch at Los Compadres. After taking our orders, the chips and salsa came out. The chips were amazing - freshly made from hand-made tortillas, light and crispy, no soggy spots, no greasiness, and perfectly seasoned. A fire-engine red salsa accompanied them, and it was every bit as hot as its color suggested - almost too hot, though I could still taste the underlying flavor of the tomatoes and onions beneath the dominant flavor of the chilis. These were perhaps the best chips and salsas that I've had in a long while. After about 15 minutes, our orders started coming out. My order - a combination plate of a chicken enchilada and a chile relleno, with the usual accoutrements - was the last plate out, but definitely worth the wait. First, the chicken enchiladas: the shredded chicken inside the enchilada was perfectly done (cooked through, but not dry); however, it was the red sauce that took these enchiladas to the next level, with its complex interplay of garlic, cumin, and chilis. The shredded chicken inside the enchiladas was tossed in this sauce, which was then ladled on top of the enchiladas and all around them. Next, the chile relleno: here, technique is all-important, as a slight miscalculation in the cooking times or temperatures can result in an overly crunchy poblano chile or a burned egg batter. (I know from experience - I've had a few chiles rellenos die miserable deaths at my hands!) Their chile relleno was perfectly cooked through - the poblano chile inside was soft, the cheese inside the poblano was melted, and the egg batter on the outside was tender. Accompanying the chile relleno and the enchiladas were some Mexican rice and black beans boiled in salted water. Neither of these dishes were especially fancy, so as not to compete with the flavors of the chile relleno or the enchiladas. Overall, I found the food to be authentic, and authentically wonderful. The service was fine; it took maybe 10 or 15 minutes for our food to reach our table, which is not bad, given the quality of it. The restaurant itself is small, neat, and decorated with the usual Mexican motifs; they were able to seat the ten of us in the one wide space in the restaurant, but would have been hard pressed to accommodate another large group. My only complaint is that the restaurant is located in downtown South San Francisco, so all of the parking nearby is metered or in pay lots. Overall, I give Los Compadres a 5/5 star rating.

For $6.25+ tax, I ended up with far and away the best breakfast burrito of my life and I've had many, from San Diego to L.A. to the Mission and more. This one topped them all - hand-cut potatoes (since they didn't have them pre-cut), tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, egg hashed together on the grill, cheese, fantastic salsa roja that tied everything together, and a bit of guacamole. I can see the concerns regarding cleanliness from the physical plant itself, but an older gentleman was hand-rolling and dropping meatballs into albondigas and I didn't see him touch anything else or anything that crazy. I can't speak to their other food, but if this is any indication, I would think the rest of the food would be at least above average. Great stop, convenient for wasting some time right off the 101 before picking someone up at SFO. I'm as white as white can be and didn't see any of the racist concerns others have mentioned come up.

Got a super burrito w/o beans and rice and it was decent, but so greasy, the tortilla got all soggy. Guess im still in search of an awesome Mexican place in the bay area as good as Cotijan in SD.

A hole in the wall Mexican place and tastes and flavors were raw in a good way. Their spicy salsa was spicy and the chips are hearty!! We ordered a Cheese Quesadilla Meal plate and a super veggie burrito. The portion size is pretty good and the tasted great! Overall, a nice place for a quick lunch. P.S. They don't take plastic..be sure to have some cash on hand. For all this food the bill was $13...so a pretty cheap place.

More like 3.5 stars. The al pastor meat is delicious and not super fatty like it can be at other places. The Burrito was fine, but a little too much rice for my taste. Everything was good, more like 4 stars, but the service was a little slow and a little hit or miss for being somewhat slow (i was the only one there). I'll have to give them another chance.....

Definitely some of the best Mexican food I've found in South San Francisco. I work about a half a block away from this joint, so it immediately earned my business. I haven't sampled their entire menu yet, but their tacos, taco salads and burritos are out of this world. Everything is just absolutely delicious. I did have to take one star away for not having a complete menu. Their menu doesn't mention taco salads, I just happened one day to see the tortilla bowl and ordered one. I know that doesn't necessarily warrant a whole star being taken away, but half stars aren't an option, unfortunately. Great place. If you're in the area, check it out. You won't be sorry!

Los Compadres is a solid tacqueria when it comes to S.SF. I've only ordered out for work so I can't speak to what the play may look and feel like, but the food is legit. Their carne asada burrito is huge and also tasty. Their burritos have have good flavor because they don't skimp on the accompanyments. Not only is are the burritos meaty, they also come with a ton of cheese, beans, rice, and sour cream. Good flavor, huge portions, definitely worth coming back

Hold on, Los Comprades with an average rating of 4.5 stars is good but not Tapatia/Farolito good. Farolito and Tapatia are joints, with their fresh meats, the pinnacle of SSF taqueria eats. However, after a Sunday lunch with my mom and sister I crown Los Comprades temporary King of Menudo in SSF. The tripe was buttery soft, the flavors of the broth after sitting for a day was deep, and it just tasted better than Farolito's, La Perla's, La Paloma's, etc's version. static2.px.yelp.com/bpho… ($9 bucks but enough to split for two people 5/5) The also call their regular tacos ($1.75) taquitos. The lengua was delicious and had a real beefy taste. static3.px.yelp.com/bpho… The al pastor had really nice spice. Unfortunately, my sisters carne asada super had meat that had been previously refrigerated as it came scooped out of a metal container and was heated on their grill top. Bleh! static1.px.yelp.com/bpho… My mom ordered the breakfast burrito ($5.30) Chorizo was ok to me, the eggs were ok. I'm not a super big fan of breakfast burritos since they are a little plain but not bad. static2.px.yelp.com/bpho… You order at the counter, get your food, and then pay when you leave at the register. Cash only and the cooks bring a nice touch as they like to sing loudly with the Banda songs from the jukebox. The menudo is the best thing here.

For a hole in the wall Mexican place this place is good. Chicken burrito was tasty and came with chips and salsa- which were good also. Reasonably priced. I'd def come back if I needed lunch in this area again.

Nope. Not for me I got the nachos and when they microwaved to melt the cheese, I was unimpressed. Also, the cook was making food and touching raw chicken without washing her hands. Go elsewhere.

The chicken mole is enough to make you cry. There are no people on this planet that won't love it. Scoop it up with handmade tortillas and wash it down with a Jaritos. The grilled chicken is amazing. In any application but my favorite is on it's own wrappers in a fresh made corn tortilla. It's all you need. Go here, die a happy (wo)man.

I wanted to like this place, but with so many other (better) taquerias in the area, I can't think of a single reason to recommend this place. I usually size up a new taqueria based on their carnitas and carne asada, and sadly, Los Compadres ranks near the bottom for both items. The carnitas was dry and not very well prepared or seasoned, and the carne asada tasted like they used super cheap meat with lots of tenderizer... plus, they added ground beef to their carne asada... really??? For the money, the portions are big... but considering the poor quality of food, I'm not sure if this is a positive or negative. From reading other reviews, I could give them the benefit of the doubt and try the al pastor... but I wouldn't bother. Just head up the street for La Tapatia or El Farolito.

There is no shortage of Taquerias in South City but this is my favorite. They have the best al pastor I have had anywhere, always consistently marinated and cooked just right. Most places just don't get it quite right; it's too dry or just tastes... off. I have had several different items, always a home-cooked fresh taste.

my dads friend owned it back in the day so thought id try it again..... bad idea. first lady took my order but forgot it cuz she was busy.. so other lady took it again... the burrito literally took only 1-2 min to make, which to me is bad... the burrito itself wasnt bad.. just that every time i put it down.. a pool of grease leaked out.. not even half done and lost my appetite..

CA$H only! But they have an ATM machine along where you order. I was wondering the streets of South City during my lunch and decided I wanted to get my burrito from here. As a vegetarian, I love Bean & Cheese burritos. It is all about how the beans taste to me. This place hella passed my test on flavor. The catch is they didn't have it on the menu so I asked for the price, they charged me $2.50. But this may change depending on who the cashier is for that day. The place is small, super low key.

We stopped in here because the Italian restaurant across the street wasn't open and we'd planned to go there. So we quickly decided to go here instead. The place was small and seemed OK. We ordered nachos with steak, no beans or hot sauce. The portion was pretty large. Nachos were pretty good. Not the best, but not the worst I've had, either. The flavor was good and they were hot, temperature-wise. I am not sure if we'd go back, but it was OK. There seemed to be quite a bit of hungry people coming in as we were eating our nachos. So I guess that says something.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! Best burrito I have ever had (and I have had more then I should admit). I recently stumbled unto this gem with my mom. The people that work there are very nice. My mom and I have probably eaten there a good 6 times since finding it and the sweet women behind the counter remembers our order. Best carnitas! I'm getting hungry thinking about their amazing food. Highly recommend!

what i ordered... super burrito with carnitas burrito was good in size, fillings were also good but the carnitas though good in flavor it was cold. ambiance... bad (place was dark.... not as a theme i presumed, smokey and untidy) service... so-so (young looking lad making all the work was nice but the stationary plump 'ol lady at the counter was the opposite) cost... $ (fair)

This place is good for going in, eating and going out. It's not much of an environment to slowly enjoy your meal or bring a date to. The goods and the bads are as follow: Pros: - Portions are amazingly big - Price is decent - Fast Service (by this, I mean they make your food quickly) Cons: - Not the most appealing/exciting restaurant front - Meat is dry and rough - Lacking in customer service - Poor restaurant environment (poor lighting, poor restaurant condition, bad decor, lacking in sanitary efforts/standards)

My burrito was good (not the best ever, but solidly good), but they didn't use gloves to make it or to handle any other food. And they're actively working the cash register, handling cash and cards from people, opening drawers, etc. Ugh. Kind of turned my stomach to see the same hands dive right into the ingredient buckets and handle my burrito. Los Compadres, if you're reading this - I will substantially upgrade this review if I stop by again in a couple months and you're using gloves. It can't be that hard to do.

In the last year (2010), Los Compadres had the best for burritos for us. 1. The burritos have a huge amount of meat. 2. They serve tongue. 3. There IS cheese and sour cream like they say and it wasn't a lie. 4. The burritos aren't soupy or runny. 5. It wasn't a salad burrito. Nothing like corn in it. I've gone to a couple of places and the burritos were so-so in a bad kind of way. The meat was overcooked or cooked a long time ago and didn't have much taste. The meat at Los Compadres was tender. There was only one problem--they're a little on the cold side for me (who was used to hotter [temperature-wise] burritos. Nowadays, all the burritos seem sort of lukewarm. I don't know what it is anymore. The cheese is never melted. They rest in cold lumps at various spots in the burrito. I gave Los Compadres 3 stars because they had a good solid burrito. Not a lot of complains about it. They're the best I've had in a long time, but nothing that knocked my socks off. I am not raving in absolute madness that I'm in love or that we "just have to" go and eat there every day. If you need to get a burrito, I would go here. It's not a place for a romantic date or a place to have your poetry workshop meet at, but the other places are pissing me off (even El Farito).
Good tacos!! More expensive (I guess because of their location), but why not the real way of doing Al Pastor on the rotisserie with they guy cutting the pineapple off the top? How come you only find it done that way in Mexico? Too much fat in the Lengua Taco.

Cheesy Goodness! I love this area of South San Francisco. So many cool places to eat. We chose this place because it was the first one we saw. We went to a quick dinner be cause I was at the point of super bitchiness that food was needed immediately. So being in that state I walked into this place that had no one there and I was a bit worried... After ordering and eating there I wondered why aren't people eating there. WTF? Is it because this area is more of a lunch destination? The people that work there were so sweet and friendly. We ordered crispy tacos, enchilada and a chile relleno. Everything was so good and very fresh. Their prices were very reasonable. I strongly recommend that you check them out.

I love this place, fulfills all my comfort food cravings when I'm back in the Bay. I've been going to this taqueria since I was a kid, often getting a super burrito, breakfeast burrito, tacos, nachos, enchiladas, etc. When I was away for college, ever time I came home for a visit I would make sure to hit up this joint. For the past decade I've only been able to drop by once or twice a year, but it's just that much more satisfying after the long wait. The decor has been spruced up a bit over the years, when I was a kid it was a proper hole in the wall. Leaving tomorrow, and just had to go for their burrito before I take off. The things that really satisfy my cravings are their marinated jalepenos, it's got a real kick, and love their salsa and hot sauce. Till next year.

Solid place to stop on your way to the airport! Pull-over and treat your driver to a simple meal or snack that won't break the bank and will leave you feeling like you've just had an honest experience. I ordered the super taco de Pollo which was beyond a taco - it was really a monument to the entire concept of taco. Chicken was delicious; ample cheese; fresh, crisp shreds of ice berg; dos thick corn tortillas on the bottom; y un poco crema! Rico! Wunderbar!

Try the carnitas burrito - it's the best in the area. The carnitas meat is fatty, but delicious. Their tacos and burritos put the other SSF Mexican restaurants to shame.

I realllly love this place. I love La Tapatia but man sometimes my butt needs a chair to sit on lol....The tacos are so full of lfavor and the sopes...Oh man the sopes are so perfect in every way lol..I know I'm a fattie but I love food and this place is definately the best place to satisfy el gusano lol It does get busy during luch hour so jus make sure u get there a few minutes before noon cuz those few minutes make a huge difference in the lines!!

Go figure - the day I get ROTD for La Tapatia, I decide to go here. I guess it was the 4.5 star review and the fact that it was so nearby my work that I was like what the hell lets give it a go. So it's very taqueria-esque, a grill, some steam trays. The have the usual selection of meat choices for the tacos and burritos - where I was rather surprised (even though I didn't order them) was that they had taquitos. Nice. I don't see taquitos in northern california. I was a little dismayed that their specials were very few and there was no salsa bar - a bottle of hot sauce on the table was about it. I ordered a quesadilla with pollo asado. I was also happy I didn't have to ask for "Super" to get sour cream and guacamole with it. Now this was actually really good, the chicken was very tasty and almost slightly crispy. I'd go back and get a pollo asado burrito since that meat was excellent! Very pleasantly surprised. I got there pretty much right at noon and it was empty, within 10 minutes there was quite a line. Despite a few deficiencies in my opinion the flavor the food here is very good and while I still like La Tapatia better, you do get a place to sit here and the prices are about right. I think a return visit for the carne asada and those taquitos will help validate my first impression.

Stopped here for a burrito after not eating all day, which usually means even mediocre food tastes amazing. Los Compadres came with a great recommendation (i.e. great expectations) and while I was impressed with the authenticity, the burrito I had was good but not great. It was a bit smaller than the burritos I usually get a my local taqueria, but also cheaper if I remember correctly. It was kind of cool to watch them make the food right in front of you and I'd stop here again if I'm nearby (it's not far from SFO, btw) but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

I have yet to have better Taqueria food than at Los Compadres. I used to come here for lunch every day during the work week. Their pinto beans are delicious and the rice they use is spectacular, but nothing compares to the their home-made hot sauce. The secret to their success is the quality of ingredients. Best super tacos on earth! I've yet to have anything here that was not amazing. I can fill up for under 8 bucks and have the strength of ten men! I love you Los Compadres, don't ever change!

Very bland food here. I'm not sure why this is the case but that's just the way they make it here. The chicken, which they prepare right in front of you has no flavor. They only do cash which is just unacceptable in 2010. Their services are not very hospitable either and there's a sense of negative energy that just runs through this whole place. It taps you on the shoulder and says..."hey buddy.. i don't think your business is wanted here...sorry!" Definitely not coming back here again. :-)

Couldn't agree more about the traditional vegetariano burrito... at least from the veggie perspective; however, I'd take a dive over a ritzy sit down any day, for beauty is on the inside and dirty is only linoleum deep. And by the way... "autntico" is the source of many a burrito's charm. Sort of like how we love musicians who grew up in the ghetto, raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. Then you look at your upstanding burrito and commend it for overcoming the circumstances of it's environment. My actual rating would fall in the ballpark of 4.25 stars. A delicious, multifaceted burrito for $3.50 is a steal. This guy is a force to be reckoned with. Rice, black beans, salsa, guacamole, lettuce, red sauce and perfectly balanced. Not watery at all. Wonderful. The problem is they don't take plastic which will severely limit my visits... that is a shame. But trust you me, it will motivate me to plan ahead. Sucks for them though.

OMG I LOVE this place! If you come here, you HAVE to order the Pollo Azado Nachos Grandes! Hella good! There's something about the way they cook their chicken, it's awesome! Order it like this, and you'll thank me later! : -Refried Beans -Cheese -Sour Cream and -Guacamole! Damn, just thinking about it.....mmmmmmmmmm!!!

I was craving a good plate of nachos for lunch so I stopped in this place to get satisfied. To make a long story short, I took two bites of the nachos and threw the rest in the trash. Seriously, folks, the chicken was totally bland and smelled of old cooking oil. What a waste!! It was awful. I'm not having much luck with Mexican food lately . . .

You might be high on authenticity. Let's say on one end of your scale is Chevy's, way up near the other end is Los Compadres. This place sells down home authentic Big Time. Of course it doesn't hurt that the place is on Grand Avenue too. If this was Hollywood, there'd be chickens scurrying all over the place. I can't help it... old black n white photos in the booths, only one server and cook can speak english... the corn tortillas are home made and a lil thick... you gotta love it! I've had their burritos, and their dinner plates. Everything is fresh and very flavorful. How often do you get half an avacado on your salad? Just eating in that place makes me feel that this is the way this type of food is supposed to taste. Even though very little english is spoken, the help is very friendly and you will be taken care of. Ask about the daily specials posted on the menu board, because you might not see them at your average Mexican Restaurant (especially Chevy's). One day they had Mexican BBQ pork ribs. Just awesome. Did I say the prices are like really cheap? Parking meters on the street are the only draw back, and there are parking lots with meters close by as well.

This is as authentic and natural as Mexican food should be! The seating area can be a bit limited, but I've never had a problem with seating. And I can't think of any other place where I can get rice, beans, two tacos with all the toppings and a drink for less that $7. One of the best experiences I know of is when I'm tired and a little hungry... And I restore my energy by having dinner there. It's that good. Yes, the place is a little dingy... But I'd still take a date there before hitting the City... It's cute and the staff is friendly too!

So this is the "real" restaurant that the taco truck in downtown SF is based out of. The place is a little dingy so have your food to go and you can enjoy delicious Mexican food in the comfort of your own home instead. Word of warning...the nice ladies who work the counter here speak minimal English, so you have to be crystal clear in what you want or go in with the ability to order in Spanish. We learned that the hard way when we went in to order some nachos, burritos, and tacos to go. The nachos, which either came with meat (aka "large") or without meat ("small") are rocking. We had the nachos with both al pastor and carne asada. The al pastor was really flavorful, even though it was re-heated on the griddle. The counter ladies will pile on the sour cream, guacamole and cheese and it makes for some kick-ass, though highly fattening nachos. Their hot sauce is also very good. Overall, a great taqueria serving some delicious food best eaten privately at home, where you won't be seen scarfing nachos down at an un-ladylike pace.

came down here today with my brother for a little bit of lunch. ended with a lot of lunch for really cheap. i had a tamal plate (puerco, 4.50), while my brother had a quesadilla plate (al pastor, 5.95). really, really cheap, greasy mexican food with lots of adornments on the side. these guys also have complimentary pickled jalapenos and carrots. they kind of burned my tongue, but i was asking for it. i love spicy food. the food itself wasn't the greatest mexican i have ever had (taqueria vallarta tacos! tamale man in front of foods co!), but it was really cheap and the portions were really generous. the guacamole was slightly overly salty, but the salsa was spot-on and very fresh. the tamal itself was your run-of-the-mill mexican fare. nothing special about it, but at least it wasn't overly small or greasy from the lard.

I'm a La Tapatia fan, but there are times I just need to sit down and enjoy my tacos. Big plus for the homemade tortillas made in front of me, another pluse for the big size tacos and good meat selections (that means a variety of dead animal parts). A minus, well it's not that clean...but then again, you want clean then go to Chevy's.

Honestly I have no idea how anyone can review this place anything more than one star. I had a carne asada super burrito that was the worst burrito I have ever had. Seriously any menu item at taco bell is waaaay better. The carne asada literally tasted like super old beef jerky. This was all back when I ate meat, perhaps these guys have changed something, hopefully.

This restaurant also falls into "good food fast" category. The food here earns all of its points. Well I take it back, the great attitude of the ladies behind the counter is definitely a factor. El Pastor is definitely a good meat on the menu. The menu is pretty straight forward with your usual suspects (burritos, tacos and etc.) Yummy Mexican food! They also have specials(soups and stews and such) that I am yet to try. CORRECTION! Caldo de Res is my favorite!

Excellent Tacos! I luv this place. Their tacos are big and filled with meaty, juicy pieces of el pollo asado, al pastor, or carne asada. You can choose to have black beans, pinto beans, or refried beans. And then wash all that down with agua fresca. Yum-O!

The best burritos I have had (usually carnitas), and I've had many. I've been an occasional customer since the mid-1980s, and it is generally--not always--terrific.

Great place to grab a quick burro! I recommend the chicken. My only complaint here is not free bag of chips, but oh well still good.

This roach coach is legit. For those of you who've never been, and are already in the area, you should go. I'm not sure if I would come across town for it. It's a taco truck run by a couple "mission hipsters" I've had the street tacos and they are worth the wait. It is a taco truck after all, so there isn't much seating. If you head down around noon be prepared to wait at least 10 min in line. The other noteworthy item is the quesadilla.

Los Compadres has always been one of my favorite burrito spots. I feel like they put more effort than anywhere else to make your food great, not just standard. Typically I go for the el pastor, but beware it can be a little fattier than other places. It's cash only and they have an ATM right there in the store.

This is a great place for authentic Mexican food. If you're looking for menudo or birria on a weekend, check this place out. Great corn tortillas. I recently had their chicken mole, almost as good as my mother's. One of the few places I know that makes a chorizo and egg burrito.
(4)
Ezduzit S.
The best al pastor tacos I've ever had! One taco itself is a meal. It comes with rice and beans. At $2.50 each, two should do the trick. The other meats are tasty also. Never had anything bad here. A definite must if you're in the area, otherwise look for them trucks.

Never been to the roach coach mentioned in some of the reviews but have been to the restaurant in SSF. Found this one time when I wanted some food before going to the airport so we randomly pulled over in SSF and found this place. Now I work in SSF and come here for lunch. I'm a vegetarian so no comment on the meat but everything else is great! I love the burritos and theyhave best veggie nachos! The hot sauce is hot! The chips and salsa are so good! They don't speak much English so be prepared. I will keep coming back here.....they are the best taqueria in SSF.

We went to Los Compadres on a Friday night and the place was not busy. We ordered the sopes with al pastor which were delicious and I would definitely go back for just for those!

The best chiken burrito ever!!! I discovered this place a while back when I worked in South SF and have kept on going back. They don't take cards, so make sure to take some cash money.

I heard that this place was pretty good so deviated from my favorite, La Tapatia, to try it out. Big mistake. The meat was bland, not much flavor and it was more expensive than LT. The burrito was smaller than LT's and I just couldn't finish it because of the lack of flavor.

Don't let the official address deceive you. These are the guys who operate the daytime mobile "roach coach" on the corner of Spear and Folsom. The quesadilla is awesome. Everything else is pretty good and definitely a cut above other nearby options. The line outside the truck says it all.

I love this place. Excellent carne al pastor with fresh, hand-made corn tortillas!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(4)Esmeralda P.
(1)Kelly Y.
(3)John G.
Meh...
(2)paul h.
Today will be the last time I ever step foot in here. The guy behind the counter is rude and doesn't give a shit he completely ignored me and took the next guy's order even though I had been patiently waiting and he just waltzed in. This is not the first time he has done this but for me my last. Guess they don't care about there customers
(1)Patrick S.

(3)Carlos R.
First time here and to not make this story long, food sits in a steamer and the carne Asada has all the fat on it, so u get clumps of fat and you also get the the Chile stems in your food. La genre seem nice but have no pride in there work
(1)Wil O.

Extremely polite and the super breakfast burrito is a perfect way to start your Saturday

(5)James J.
(5)Samantha C.
Got a super burrito w/o beans and rice and it was decent, but so greasy, the tortilla got all soggy. Guess im still in search of an awesome Mexican place in the bay area as good as Cotijan in SD.
(4)Ravi C.
(4)Vittorio L.
(3)Brad P.
(4)Vince E.
Good flavor, huge portions, definitely worth coming back
(4)Earl G.
(3)Genevieve S.
For a hole in the wall Mexican place this place is good. Chicken burrito was tasty and came with chips and salsa- which were good also. Reasonably priced. I'd def come back if I needed lunch in this area again.
(4)Craig M.
Nope. Not for me I got the nachos and when they microwaved to melt the cheese, I was unimpressed. Also, the cook was making food and touching raw chicken without washing her hands. Go elsewhere.
(2)Emma H.
(5)Steve L.
(2)llando d.
Nice family friendly Mexican restaurant. Generous portion on all our orders....it was quick stop but the food was delicious. I will definitely stop their again.
(4)Mark R.
Absolutely love this place! Amazing enchilada plate, great prices, and friendly staff. On of my favorite hidden gems in south San Fran!
(5)Brad B.
There is no shortage of Taquerias in South City but this is my favorite. They have the best al pastor I have had anywhere, always consistently marinated and cooked just right. Most places just don't get it quite right; it's too dry or just tastes... off. I have had several different items, always a home-cooked fresh taste.
(4)marco r.
my dads friend owned it back in the day so thought id try it again..... bad idea. first lady took my order but forgot it cuz she was busy.. so other lady took it again... the burrito literally took only 1-2 min to make, which to me is bad... the burrito itself wasnt bad.. just that every time i put it down.. a pool of grease leaked out.. not even half done and lost my appetite..
(2)Michelle C.
(4)Andrea T.
(3)Stephanie M.
(5)Gors P.
what i ordered... super burrito with carnitas burrito was good in size, fillings were also good but the carnitas though good in flavor it was cold. ambiance... bad (place was dark.... not as a theme i presumed, smokey and untidy) service... so-so (young looking lad making all the work was nice but the stationary plump 'ol lady at the counter was the opposite) cost... $ (fair)
(3)Morgan P.
(3)L W.
(1)Priscilla L.

Awesome food. Huge portions. Handmade corn tortillas.
(5)Christian P.
Good tacos!! More expensive (I guess because of their location), but why not the real way of doing Al Pastor on the rotisserie with they guy cutting the pineapple off the top? How come you only find it done that way in Mexico? Too much fat in the Lengua Taco.
(3)#NAME?
Ordered simple carne asada burrito. Funky smell and taste, cheese was shredded cheddar and cold. Will NOT be returning - walk up the street for better food.
(1)Rod B.
eat here homie. trust. puts a lot of other mexican restaurants to shame, dude. if you want your grade A ambience, go eat at el torito or at some other fake place. food here tastes like home cooking.
(5)Christine S.

Menudo on Sundays is so yummy , but the hand made tortillas are delish!!!
(5)Cloudy P.
Can't really think of anything that wasn't done perfectly here. We had posole, huevos rancheros, lengua plate. Fresh hand made tortillas. Friendly. Quick. LEGIT. Don't listen to bad reviews... this a little mom and pop shop. Don't expect cheepotle
(5)Bob R.
Now $3.75 for a regular veggie burrito with beans, rice, lettuce, salsa, and guacamole. Goat and Tripe on Saturday and Sundays!!! I'll keep that in mind when / if I stop being a vegetarian.
(4)Laura M.
Rico! Wunderbar!
(4)Josh K.

(5)Ross R.
(4)Richard J.
Stopped by this place for a Mexican breakfast. Awesome breakfast burritos!!! Handmade tortillas offered and complimentary salsa w/ chips brought to the table. Prices are reasonable. Stop by for some genuinely fresh mex food that is cooked after you order.
(4)John A.
Taco meat was full of fat. Complained, but staff did not react.
(1)Stephanie S.
(3)Gustavo C.
Monday special - Best chicken soup I've had in a long time!!! I'll be back next Monday ;-)
(5)Jordan P.
(5)Alex F.

(5)A B.
Homemade tortillas gives this place the 4 stars. Everything else is run of the mill, not spectacular but doesn't suck either. Good for value. Get the fresh tortilla tacos for sure.
(4)Andrew E.
Handmade totillas... great Chile Verde... good people.
(4)Frisco N.
(5)Al T.
I'm not having much luck with Mexican food lately . . .
(2)Rick V.
(4)Omar N.
goddayuumm their chips and salsa is hot as a mufucca! only fitting to have one of the best mexican joints in the area right in the beginning of downtown. clean, nicely decorated, hella folks up in here so u know they doin it right! ordered me a super burrito and this bitch is huge! tasty, too....id love to get into detail but lets just say ...makes me wanna do that dance that the THREE AMIGOS did in their movie...
(4)Greg T.
Great chicken burrito were they chop the chicken in front of you + chips freshly fried....yum
(5)R G.
(5)Angela H.

(3)Ted P.
(4)Neil W.
(1)agil m.
(4)Mauling W.
Excellent Tacos! I luv this place. Their tacos are big and filled with meaty, juicy pieces of el pollo asado, al pastor, or carne asada. You can choose to have black beans, pinto beans, or refried beans. And then wash all that down with agua fresca. Yum-O!
(4)john e.
The best burritos I have had (usually carnitas), and I've had many. I've been an occasional customer since the mid-1980s, and it is generally--not always--terrific.
(4)mario S.
Great place to grab a quick burro! I recommend the chicken. My only complaint here is not free bag of chips, but oh well still good.
(4)Nopadon W.
(4)Ryan D.
Los Compadres has always been one of my favorite burrito spots. I feel like they put more effort than anywhere else to make your food great, not just standard. Typically I go for the el pastor, but beware it can be a little fattier than other places. It's cash only and they have an ATM right there in the store.
(4)Alberto S.
This is a great place for authentic Mexican food. If you're looking for menudo or birria on a weekend, check this place out. Great corn tortillas. I recently had their chicken mole, almost as good as my mother's. One of the few places I know that makes a chorizo and egg burrito.
(4)Ezduzit S.
The best al pastor tacos I've ever had! One taco itself is a meal. It comes with rice and beans. At $2.50 each, two should do the trick. The other meats are tasty also. Never had anything bad here. A definite must if you're in the area, otherwise look for them trucks.
(5)Erin S.
(5)Janice A.
We went to Los Compadres on a Friday night and the place was not busy. We ordered the sopes with al pastor which were delicious and I would definitely go back for just for those!
(4)Julius N.
The best chiken burrito ever!!! I discovered this place a while back when I worked in South SF and have kept on going back. They don't take cards, so make sure to take some cash money.
(5)m c.
I heard that this place was pretty good so deviated from my favorite, La Tapatia, to try it out. Big mistake. The meat was bland, not much flavor and it was more expensive than LT. The burrito was smaller than LT's and I just couldn't finish it because of the lack of flavor.
(3)Cully W.
Don't let the official address deceive you. These are the guys who operate the daytime mobile "roach coach" on the corner of Spear and Folsom. The quesadilla is awesome. Everything else is pretty good and definitely a cut above other nearby options. The line outside the truck says it all.
(4)J S.
I love this place. Excellent carne al pastor with fresh, hand-made corn tortillas!
